All of Trump’s minions are , by definition, disrupters ! It’s part of the game to claim dominion, power, money. He is oily and patronizing - but not subtle. He will just be a nuisance ..

Pete Hoekstra is not a professional diplomat. He is a career politician. And as Ambassador to Canada, acts as a paid agent of the Trump Administration.

But he is also a true believer of the farthest right concepts of broligarchic, fascistic conservatism at any cost. This is from Wikipedia:

"In July 2017, Hoekstra was nominated to be United States ambassador to the Netherlands by President Donald Trump. This nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 9, 2017, and Hoekstra was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador on December 11, 2017. He took office on January 10, 2018. During his tenure, he gained notability for making anti-Muslim comments. He left office on January 17, 2021. On January 20, 2024, Hoekstra was elected chair of the Michigan Republican Party. He is listed as a "contributor" to Project 2025."

His mission is to facilitate undermining our government and economy, to where the objective of control over our resources and land mass can be held by the US.

Full. Stop.

He is an enemy of our state, and should be invited to leave as soon as possible.

I am not a Canadian but I'm here to say that there is absolutely NO WAY that should trust a word that comes out of Hoekstra's mouth.

I remember when you had to be good at your job, first to get it, second to hold on to it. Brave New Trump World!

You made it very clear Sylvie what a real ambassador is. And is not.

I hope official Ottawa goes through the motions of a minimal level of politeness. Others can make every effort to shun this guy. No invitations to conferences or industry speaking gigs or by Universities. Institute a media boycott, going to others in Washington or elsewhere because he is not connected with what is going on; Minimize municipal services - lowest priority snow removal, sweep cleans and ensure that urgent street repairs dig deep holes in front of all entrances and exits to the residence. And we could call on the Arts community to design public art displays with pointed messaging on the street in front of the residence. I sure others can be more creative.

Those are excellent suggestions, Peter. On the matter of media: I am surprised by the extent of coverage he is getting in the local press. How many other ambassadors do you know are interviewed seemingly weekly. We need to object.

This was an education for me. Thank you, Sylvie, for enlightening me. I think of ambassadors mostly as pleasant, benign PR shills for their governments, but this guy seems to be an active part of the MAGA agenda so he is clearly not to be trusted by Canadians.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I would certainly hope that our Canadian politicians and pundits are able to see through the very thin veil of apparent american “diplomacy” as presented by the current american ambassador to Canada. As of June 14 it is quite obvious what the goals of the current american regime are. It is my sincere hope that Canada is paying attention and making our country’s position very clear. If the american president wishes to push his agenda in the usa that is beyond the purview of our Canadian government. If the current american ambassador wishes to push that agenda in Canada I would hope he will be met with a clear message that we don’t do things that way. Frankly, he’s a mere political hack who is just another mouthpiece for the convicted felon who happens to live in the white house currently.

Hoekstra gives foreign diplomats everywhere a bad rap and makes a joke of the word "diplomacy". His arrogance and condescending attitude towards Canadians are so disrespectful as only would be tolerated by a boss who endorses and admires such behaviour himself. ❤️🇨🇦

Hoekstra is nothing but a MAGA sycophant pandering to Trump’s 51st state BS. He most certainly is not a diplomat. Too bad we can’t kick the asshat out of Canada. He isn't welcome here as far as I am concerned.

The jury is not out. The verdict is clear: Hoekstra is not a diplomat he is a disruptor working for the disruptor-in-chief.

Thanks for this. When reading his name in the media, I was inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. After your listing of facts, I don’t trust him. Your quote of Dhar Mann is exceptional.
